About Us

Hampstead Garden Suburb Archives Trust is a charity run by volunteers. We look after an extensive collection of material about the history and development of Hampstead Garden Suburb, from its conception at the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. Some of this (letters and pamphlets and newspapers) is housed at the offices of the HGS Trust in North London, and can be visited by appointment. Most of our material (architectural plans and photographs) are kept at The London Archive in Clerkenwell.

Explore Our Archives

Most of our material is held at The London Archives, the historical archive for the Greater London area, which is based in Clerkenwell. You can search their entire archive (all 3.5 million items).

You may find it easier to search just the HGS material held at The London Archives by clicking on our website here. Take a note of the reference number of any item you are interested in and then contact The London Archives directly. Please note that they don't charge for accessing material in person but they do if you want to take a photo of it and for getting copies of documents.

We also maintain a collection locally, stored at the offices of the HGS Trust. We have about 180 hanging files which have been catalogued by a volunteer and you can search that catalogue here. We also have lots of books and pamphlets and files which have not yet been catalogued (volunteers welcome!). To find out more about these please contact us by email on suburbarchives@gmail.com.
